Modi At Democracy Summit: The Role of Hindutva And Degradation of Human Rights and Rise of Authoritarianism in India

India is on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a non-permanent member. And yet, Prime Minister Modi and the ruling BJP party have taken the country down a dangerous trajectory, one that targets non-Hindus including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Adivaasis and Dalit communities. This is the antithesis of equality and democracy. Religious freedoms have eroded drastically. Hindutva, a majoritarian ideology that calls for a “pure” Hindu nation has drastically intensified under Modi’s rule resulting in the subjugation of minorities and lower castes.
