From March 28-30, 2023, the House Democracy Partnership (HDP), a bi-partisan Commission in the U.S. House of Representatives, co-implemented by the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), will host the Legislative Track of the second Summit for Democracy.

The legislative track will convene approximately 60 senior elected representatives at the leadership level to Washington, DC to participate in a number of in-person sessions.  These engagements will provide opportunities for a global set of reform-oriented Members of Parliament to connect and learn more about their shared responsibilities and democratic practices.

Session topics planned in the three-day agenda are expected to include: The Role of Legislatures in Supporting National Democracy Commitments and Preserving Democratic Norms, The Legislature’s Role in Promoting Anti-Corruption Initiatives, Promoting Inclusivity to Strengthen Democratic Foundations, Engaging the Citizenry to Strengthen Informed Legislative Action, and Advancing Cross-Party Cooperation to Strengthen Democratic Resilience. Speakers will range from members gathered from across the world, in addition to U.S. members of Congress, members of the U.S. government, and various organization leads, including from NDI and IRI.

In addition to representatives from global agencies and organizations, the legislative track of events will include representation from: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, The Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Kosovo, Liberia, Mongolia, North Macedonia, Poland, South Korea, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, Taiwan, Ukraine, the United States of America, and Zambia.
