The International Republican Institute (IRI), National Democratic Institute (NDI), and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), would like to cordially invite you to What’s Next: Young People’s Role in Promoting Democracy, occurring on the sidelines of the Summit for Democracy (S4D) in San José, Costa Rica. This event will be on Monday, March 27, 2023, at the Holiday Inn San Jose-Aurola (5th Avenue 5th Street, San Jose, 1000 Costa Rica) from 2:30 pm – 5:45 pm (CST). The event will be held in Spanish with simultaneous English translation.

This event is structured around the publication What’s Next: Claiming the Democratic Future, developed by the World Movement for Democracy, and the “common goals for the youth vision for democracy” that are aligned with the S4D pillars. This event is an opportunity for young leaders to discuss ways in which they have expanded inclusive civic spaces, countered disinformation to create a healthy ecosystem of information, and fostered citizen-centered accountability and transparent governance.

Presenters

  • 2:30 – 3:30 pm: Panel discussion on the Summit for Democracy pillars, followed by Q&A [In-person and livestreamed]
  • 3:30 – 4:45 pm: Mapping exercise for participants to outline their efforts and discuss how they can push their governments to uphold youth commitments following the second S4D [In-person only]
  • 4:45 – 5:45 pm: Networking reception with a musical performance [In-person only]
