Virtual Event | Organised by Global Democracy Coalition
| Held in Washington & Brussels in TBA
Defending against authoritarianism
We are really excited to announce it will take place between 28 Feb and 1 March. The sessions will be held in person in Washington DC and Brussels, but we will also have some events virtually. We will be sharing the agenda soon and I am sure you will be hearing from panel organizers, as we aim for as many partners as possible to be part of the Forum. We have some (limited) funds available, in case organizations need to have their travel costs covered to attend the Forum.
As you all know, we are also preparing a video project with a set of democracy defenders videos. The GDC proposes to launch a video project that will highlight the stories of democracy defenders around the world (supported by the Coalition) to give visibility to their plight, stories, strategies, and efforts. These stories will be highlighted on the GDC website before the second Summit for Democracy and may also be broadcasted between plenaries and breaks during the official Summit for Democracy. The videos will also be a way to raise public awareness of their struggles in a way that events, webinars, panel discussions or written reports may not. We would like to ask for organizations that work with democracy defenders and would like to give them an opportunity to be part of this process, to enter their information in this excel sheet, or to contact me directly before 27 Jan COB. Organizations may also send me the raw footage of videos they already have, so the company can compile and edit them. We are already in talks with a company for this project and would very much like to know how many organizations are interested and could provide some help to the Coalition for this initiative. The concept note for this project is also available here.
In other news, we also wanted to inform you that the Recommendations for the second Summit report is now online on the Coalition website. Thank you so much to you all for your input to the document and special thanks go to @Kourtney Pompi for leading this initiative. Also, please be aware that we will have a new Coalition website later this month and the Digital Library and Mapping of the Partners tool will be launched during the GDC Forum. Some of you have already started to get my emails on this, and I hope to have sent the individual information to all the partners by the end of the week.
As always, if you have any comments or questions don´t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for the amazing energy you all bring to the Coalition and for your commitment to democracy!! Hope to see you all in the GDC Forum
