On the virtual sidelines of this second global Summit for Democracy, The Movement for Community-led Development wants everyone to appreciate the wisdom of the old saying — “All Politics is Local.” This refers to the fact that nearly all the issues that most directly affect people’s lives — health, education, nutrition, public safety, the environment — are the responsibility of grassroots level government. When people lack access to responsive, participatory local democracy, their fundamental human right to having voice in the decisions that affect their lives is systematically denied.
